I liked this one much better than the previous book. Readers be warned: this novel cannot be read as a standalone as the events pick up right where the previous book ends.
One major improvement with this book is Emily’s character. She retains her personality but shows growth, as well. I liked seeing her vulnerable and supportive of Wendall! Speaking of, Wendall was as charming as ever. His character has been a favourite of mine from Book 1. The other characters, however, were a miss. There was nothing remarkable about them.
The plot has some pacing issues. It takes a while to get going; even then, I was never fully invested. It had the potential to be very intriguing but it was just lacking that punch. Things were just wrapped up too quickly for me to be satisfied.
Overall, this was a nice cozy fantasy. But the vibe of the first book has been missing for me in the subsequent novels in this series. For that reason, I’m giving this 3/5 stars.
