The Cherry Harvest by Lucy Sanna

After all of the random books I’ve been reading, I decided that I wanted to read a good deep novel steeped in history. So I borrowed this one. I wasn’t expecting much, if I’m to be honest. Just another sad story with maybe a happy ending. All I can say now that I’ve finished it is that it has defied every expectation I had.

World War II has not been kind to the farmers of Wisconsin, specifically the Christiansen family. With their son fighting in the war, each person has to put in their share to keep their cherry farm up and running. But it is a hard job, meant for 4 not 3. When Charlotte Christiansen suggests using German POWs to work the fields, many resist. But the plan gets pushed forward and soon, the prisoners are setting up their camps near the fields. But when Charlotte’s husband, Thomas, decides to hire one of the prisoners as their daughter’s math tutor, things become a great deal more complicated – and dangerous.

I can honestly say that this book blew me away. It took so many different twists and turns than what I had imagined. I literally could not put it down. What I had thought would be a simple coming-of-age story became one about lust and insanity and …. So much more! Please please please read this! I promise it won’t disappoint. This is a great book for anyone looking for something different than their usual historical fiction but it’s also great for someone looking to read something meaningful! Give it a go and let me know what you think about it!

Happy reading ~
