The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler

So I got my phone fixed yesterday, which is awesome because it makes writing reviews that much easier. With a tablet, the keyboard is awkward and difficult to use. But with a phone, things are a lot simpler. I am still looking for a new laptop so I’m sure when I buy one, I will find it even easier to write all of my reviews!

Simon is a young librarian on the verge of losing his job. He lives in his family home all by himself, a house that is slowly crumbling around him. His younger sister is a tarot card reader with a travelling circus. When Simon receives a mysterious letter and book from an antiquarian, he doesn’t know what to make of it. Why would a stranger give him something like this? But as he reads it, he realizes that it chronicles the history of his family. And it predicts a terrible demise for his younger sister. With just a few days until the predicted date, Simon must sift his way through the diary to get to the truth and must find a way to save his sister’s life.

This was an amazing novel. I have no idea how the author came up with this idea and created this intricate plot but I’m so happy that she did. It was rich in detail and I loved the connections between the past and the present. It was just such an interesting read; I literally could not put it down! The characters were all unique and weird and loveable. I would recommend this to most people, especially those who liked The Library At Mount Char!

Happy reading ~
