When I saw the cover for this book, it reminded me of the Narnia series. I love the Narnia series; it’s what got me through my elementary school years (along with Harry Potter). It has been so long since I read fantasy novels and this book made me remember those wonderful days of reading in the library when I was young so I decided to give it a try.
For four decades, there has been peace between dragons and humans in the kingdom of Goredd – but that does not mean they trust each other. The peace treaty signed by both leaders of each party has outlined that dragons may live among humans but they must fold themselves into a human shape and lend their minds to the discovery of knowledge and the teaching of that knowledge in schools and universities. Now that the treaty anniversary is drawing near, tensions are high – and Seraphina is caught right in the midst of it. Being an unusually talented musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered. Her talent comes with a dark secret, one that she cannot ever reveal for its discovery could cost her her life. Meanwhile, a sinister plot is discovered to destroy the peace between humans and dragons, a plot that only Seraphina can unfoil. But will it cost her her secret – and her life?
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was amazing and was filled with beautiful, minute details. Seraphina is by far one of my favourite fantasy characters. She is quiet and smart and quite argumentative for someone who is so introverted. She is beautiful in a non-stereotypical way and I love her secret and how it was used to tell this story. Every character was developed well and the story line was just fantastic. I loved how it was more than just a fantasy; the mystery of who was behind this plot and who could be trusted kept me on my toes the whole time. This is actually part of a series and I can’t wait to read the next book!
Happy reading ~
