This is the second book in the Dustlands series, the sequel to Blood Red Road (which, if you read my previous post, i enjoyed immensely). Of course, I grabbed a copy of the second book as soon as I could and devoured it! But I hesitated to write about it because I didn’t want to divulge too much and spoil the series for those who haven’t read the first book yet. My friends suggested I wait and give a space of 5 posts, which I agreed to, so now here we are.
The book takes up where we last were with Saba, Emmi, Lugh, and Tommo heading out to live a peaceful life. But something is amiss. Saba finds herself haunted by visions of the dead and can’t seem to leave the past behind her. Most importantly, she misses Jack and is anxiously waiting for his return. But when the leader of the Free Hawks shows up with an ominous message from Jack, Saba knows she must go to him and find out the truth for herself.
This book disappointed me a little. It had action but it was mostly a romance. There was so much in the book that just dealt with Saba and her interactions with the males in her life that I felt it got away from the crazy adventure bits that I had loved in the first book. It’s still interesting and I am definitely going to read the next book when it comes out but I really hope this doesn’t turn out to be one more stereotypical teen trilogy.
Happy reading ~
