My Sunshine Away by M.O. Walsh

It has taken me a while to write this review. I’ve been suffering from a bit of tendonitis so it makes writing and typing extremely painful. It still hasn’t gotten better but I don’t want to prolong the review any further so here it goes.

Baton Rouge in 1989 is a quiet little place where the inhabitants enjoy their peace and safety. Until the night that 15-year old Lindy Simpson is viciously raped. This horrific act of violence changes the community overnight as each family and each child is forced to deal with the aftermath and the realization that this happy place has its dark side.

I really did not like this book. It was so long and drawn out that I just couldn’t focus. By the middle, I was flipping the pages and just skimming through everything in order to piece it all together. The ending didn’t really work for me; it just seemed disjointed and awkward. What perplexed me is the number of good reviews this book has gotten because I really can’t see any of those positives. If you decide to read this book, please comment and let me know what you thought; I would love to hear some more opinions!

Happy reading ~
