Flowers in the Attic by V.C.Andrews

So I picked this book up because the cover and title seemed interesting. And well, I guess I got that! I actually ended up reading all of the books in the series but only because I got it as a collection, one of those 4-books-in-1 things. One thing you should know about me is that I always finish a book. No matter how long or boring or disturbing, I always finish them.

This book (or rather, series) chronicles the life of 4 children who are taken to their grandparents’ house by their mother for their “safekeeping”, as their mother insists. She puts them in the attic to hide them because it is the only way to ensure that their grandparents won’t find them. “Just until I get some money from them,” their mother promises. As the children get used to life up in the attic, they begin to wonder if they will ever get out and if there isn’t a different reason for why they are hidden there…

Sounds intriguing, right? That’s why I decided to read it. All I can say is….oh..my..god. The writing style is good and there aren’t any holes in the plot but it is definitely a twisted story. I guess this was a bit too much for me; I just couldn’t deal with the depravity and messed-up-ness (yes, I know that isn’t a word) of it all. Give it a try if you want but don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Happy reading ~
