Fathomless by Jackson Pierce

This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author. I didn’t know what to expect except that it would loosely be based on fairy tales. I love fairy tales (especially the Hans Christian Anderson ones) so I decided to give this a try!

Celia is the youngest in a set of triplets, each having a special power. One of her sisters can see the future, another can see the present, but Celia sees the past – a gift that she doesn’t consider as valuable as the ones her sisters have. Until she meets Lo, a mermaid who was once a human girl. Lo can’t remember her past and she desperately wants to. She doesn’t want to continue forgetting herself, especially when her future prospects seem dark.

When a handsome boy named Jude falls into the ocean, Lo and Celia rush to save him. This marks the beginning of their friendship – and also the competition between them to win Jude. For Lo needs to kill Jude in order to become human again and that is an opportunity that Lo won’t give up on easily…

This was a really really good teen novel. It wasn’t overly deep but it was action-packed and cute and it had me on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting and the changes in Lo’s personality were portrayed really well. I am definitely going to read more by this author!

Happy reading ~
