Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

I’ve read a couple books by this author but never in any specific order. In fact, I had no idea that her books were even in a series! So being the law-abiding reader that I am, I borrowed the first book in her series.

This novel is about Elena who is a werewolf. Not by choice or by birth, mind you, but rather by force; she was bitten by a werewolf. Surprisingly enough, she survived the Change and became proud holder of the title “First Female Werewolf”. As far as the Pack knows, there has never been a female werewolf. But Elena doesn’t want this. She wants a normal life with a normal job and she wants to spend time with her human boyfriend, Phillip. But when Pack Leader Jeremy calls her with an urgent request, she finds herself sucked back into the world she had promised never to return to. Back in Stonehaven where the rest of the Pack resides, there have been mysterious and brutal killings of females happening in the area. It is up to the Pack and Elena to figure out who is behind these killings and dispose of them before they endanger the Pack. While chasing after the killer, Elena finds herself struggling to make a decision: should she stay at Stonehaven or leave the pack behind – for good?

This was a well-written novel. I liked that the author made so many references to Toronto because I live there and it made it enjoyable to hear her describe the places I see everyday in such an artistic light. The book had a lot of sex scenes in it. A lot. And while I don’t mind the occasional romance bit, detailed sexual exploits are a bit much. Aside from that, it was a good book and all aspects of werewolf life were well thought out. I’m not going to say it was amazing but it wasn’t a horrible read. Who knows, I may end up reading all of the books in the series! If you like fantasy that is on the mature side, then you should read this book. And maybe you will get hooked onto the series.

Happy reading ~
