A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I AM SUPER SUPER SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE FINALLY MANAGED TO READ THIS BOOK!! It has been on my Wishlist and on my Holds list for such a long time!!! I got lucky in being able to borrow it just as I left on my Florida trip; it has been the perfect pastime during the plane ride! Now, here’s my review:

Kell is no ordinary person: he is a magician with the ability to travel between parallel universes that all contain a London – albeit with different degrees of magic. There is Grey London, devoid of magic and ruled by the mad king George. There is Red London, where magic is the epitome of life and the flourishing empire of the Maresh Dynasty. And there is White London, where there is a constant battle between magic and those seeking to control it. Once upon a time, there was a Black London – but no one speaks of it anymore. Apart from his official role as a royal ambassador between the different Londons, Kell plays the unofficial role as smuggler of goods to those most willing to pay for magical artifacts. When this dangerous hobby leads to the discovery of an object with dark magic, Kell is forced to flee to Grey London to protect those he loves. This change in his journey lands him into the path of Delilah Bard, a cutthroat longing for adventure. Together, they set off on a quest to rid themselves of the evil source of magic but in order to do that, they’ll need to try to stay alive first.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS AMAZING AND I HONESTLY CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME!!!!!! Alright, so now that I’m done expressing my love for this book, let me describe some of the finer points. This book is unique in its storyline, which is a rare feat to achieve in the fantasy genre. I loved the concept and the way in which this book was written. Lila was by far my favourite character and the author really gave readers a teaser into the potential for this character to grow in future books. I could not put this book down; there were so many twists and turns that I had to keep on reading. It was really great to see that each character in the novel had something interesting to contribute to the story; no one character was more valuable (or more evil) than another! I know that the author is planning on making this into a series so I am going to be impatiently waiting for the next installment! If you are looking for a YA fantasy novel or just a new adult fantasy novel, then this book is perfect for you!

Happy reading ~
