Emmy and Oliver by Robin Benway

I was intrigued by this story because it is not your common teen romance novel. it explores so many more issues…. Oh I can’t say anything without giving it all away so I’m just going to jump right into the review!

Emmy and Oliver were born on the same day of the same year in the same hospital and they live right next to each other. So of course they are the best of friends. Until the day Oliver’s dad kidnaps him and never brings him back. That was the day that life changed forever for these 7-year olds. Now, 10 years later, police have finally found Oliver and he’s coming back home. Emmy is thrilled when she hears the news but she has to wonder: will it still be Oliver or will she be welcoming back a stranger?

Wow. This book was so wow. It was quirky and touching in all the right ways. It was so much more than a book about teens falling in love. It was about dealing with the aftermath of a devastating incident. It was about looking at all of the perspectives and being unable to identify the real victims. I loved all of the characters and the storyline was fantastic. It really was an eye-opener for me so I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a teen novel that is “different” from all the rest!

Happy reading ~
