When I first heard of Jurassic Park, I had no idea that it was a book and the movie was an adaptation. So naturally, I HAD to read it!
This book is about a group of people who get invited to an island with an unusual theme park. What makes it unusual is that it has real dinosaurs in it! The creator of Jurassic Park, John Hammond, assures everyone of its safety and urges everyone to explore the park. But disaster strikes when the power cuts off and they find themselves defenseless against these creatures from the past.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!! Crichton did a fantastic job blending scientific and mathematical theories with this crazy adventure plot. There are characters you love, characters you hate, and of course, DINOSAURS! I learned so much in this book and in the most exciting way possible. There were parts in the book where I was literally terrified of what was going to happen next.
I watched the movie after reading the book to see what my impressions would be. To be fair, this movie was made in 1993 so it did quite a good job graphically. However, it fell short for me and left me disappointed. The actors couldn’t bring the vibrancy of the characters to life (in my opinion) and there were a lot of holes and scene swaps (I hate when they change things from how it was written). It wasn’t terrible so I guess you could watch it….but I really hope you just read the book instead!
If you’re into sci-fi and dinosaurs and adventure, stop denying yourself the opportunity to read this amazing book!
Happy reading ~
