The Never List by Koethi Zan

I’m going to warn you right now: this is not for the faint of heart. If you don’t like disturbing novels, then don’t read this one. If you liked Heartstopper by Joy Fielding or anything by Gillian Flynn, then this book is for you.

Sarah and Jennifer have always been careful. Where normal teenage girls would be trying to sneak out and do risky things, Sarah and Jennifer would be taking extra precautions and staying at home to be safe. They created a list called the Never List that detailed all of the things that rhea should avoid doing. It was the motto of their life, their guide to the treacherous world that they lived in. But one night, tragedy strikes and the girls are abducted. Tortured physically and mentally, Sarah is separated from Jennifer and kept in a basement along with 2 other girls. After 7 years of unendurable misery, Sarah and the girls manage to escape and their captor is in prison. But the horror isn’t over yet. The girls continue to receive taunting messages from the prison. And Jennifer’s body was never found. As the time for the parole hearing edges closer, Sarah decides to finally step up and find Jennifer, wherever she may be, in whatever state she may be. But as Sarah digs deeper, she starts to uncover a more sinister plot – one that could land her back in the hell hole she had escaped from.

This book was good. Really really good. I loved the psychology behind it and how twisted it was. It wasn’t romanticized and there was depth behind each character introduced. I want to read this book again and again because I still can’t believe what I’ve read and how horrifying and amazing it was. I seriously hope there is a sequel because I need to know what happens. But then again, maybe this book is best without a sequel – I wouldn’t want to ruin this experience. If you liked the books I mentioned in the beginning, then you will love this book! So give it a try!

Happy reading ~
